An exciting Senior Nursing opportunity has arisen within CAMHS (Child and Adolescent mental health services)) at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust .
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, competent and forward-thinking Nurse Consultant to work within our CAMHS Acute and Eating Disorder care pathways.
This is a pivotal role introduced in response to an increase in the number and complexity of children and young people (CYP) requiring urgent and emergency mental health support through inpatients, day care, and crisis teams.
You would be based within our inpatient and day patient service (Chalkhill, Haywards Heath) and work covering pan-Sussex services in CAMHS Acute and Eating Disorders.
You would work closely with the MDT at Chalkhill, including Consultant Psychiatrists and a modern matron and clinical service managers. You would also work alongside the Sussex CAMHS Community Urgent and Emergency Consultant Psychiatrists and the Lead Clinicians for Sussex CAMHS community Duty and Liaison Teams and the Urgent Help Service.
Main duties of the job
You will provide professional and clinical expertise and nursing leadership across the acute care and eating disorder pathway. This will involve contributing to the development and review of the Trust wide and local Nursing Strategy, and leading on its' delivery within the locality area.
You will lead on delivering continued development of nursing practice based upon evidence and relevant research. The aim is toensure excellence in nursing practice and that service delivery is based on NICE guidelines and trust approved policies documents and guidance. This will include developing and delivering specialist training, education and development opportunities for nursing staff within acute care and, as agreed, others.
You will be a core member of an multidisciplinary senior and local leadership team which is responsible for promoting clinical innovation and delivering best quality care pathways and treatment interventions.
The postholder will be key in building teams, driving change based on learning and best practice, and work creatively around recruitment to retain, develop and grow their own nursing workforce.

We have a number of upcoming expansion plans around our day and inpatient CAMHS services. We regard this as an opportune moment for an Acute Care Nurse Consultant to develop and support the functioning of the teams and to work closely with partner organisations to ensure the best support and outcome for these CYP as part of a wider, whole system approach. You would provide professional leadership for all Nurses working within Chalkhill.
You would be supported by an overall CAMHS Clinical Lead and would work alongside our Community CAMHS Nurse Consultant.

You will need a recognised professional nursing qualification in Mental Health (R.N.M.H) with a teaching/supervisory qualification (Nurse Mentor/ENB 998), have an appropriate leadership qualification or equivalent vocational experience. Significant experience of clinical practice in a ChYPS setting is also required at band 8a.
- Qualification in Clinical Psychology/ Nursing/ Occupational Therapy
- Evidence of post qualification study
- Registration with the relevant professional body (ie HCPC, NMC, BPS)
- High level knowledge and experience of the theory and practice related to Neurodevelopment disorders
- Experience of working with a CYP with Neurodevelopment disorder

Flexibility with working patterns is desirable as we may extend the hours of our service to include some weekend and evening work.
SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager.
