Job summary
An exciting 12-month secondment opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Support, Time & Recovery (STR) Worker in the Mental Health Rapid Response Service (MHRRS). The service is looking to appoint somebody who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative, flexible and resourceful. You will need to have a high level of compassion and empathy for people presenting in a mental health crisis. This will be a challenging and very busy role where a good sense of humour and creativity is required, but one which will also be very rewarding. Some understanding of trauma and how to support people who have experienced it is necessary.
Main duties of the job
The main role of the STR workers is to take incoming calls on the MHRRS line. These calls are mainly from distressed individuals concerned about their risk. Other people concerned about an individual may also call in. The STR worker needs to be able to assess how safe an individual is and be able to establish if the individual needs further support from mental health services. The STR worker then supports an individual to make a plan to keep themselves safe. When this is not possible the STR worker can liaise with the band 6's on shift and they can consider completing a full mental health assessment with the individual in order to alleviate imminent risk (this includes a four-hour response for agreed new referrals and enhanced "duty" for the Assessment and Treatment Service).
About us
The shifts cover seven days per week with early and late shifts. The band 6's and STR's are always based at Mill View Hospital. You may be required to carry out home visits as part of the role to support a band 6 with an assessment.
As a member of the team you will be given regular clinical supervision, along with team supervision (facilitated by a psychologist and the modern matron) and opportunities for training and development.
MHRRS forms part of the urgent care crisis care pathway, along with the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, The Haven and the Mental Health Liaison Team. MHRRS sits alongside the community mental health teams and so supports their patients outside of office hours (enhanced duty).
The Mental Health Rapid Response Service (MHRRS) is a small team of Nurses, a Social Worker, STR Workers and a Team Secretary. MHRRS supports people in Brighton and Hove who are at risk because of their mental health. Referrals can be made by anyone concerned about someone's urgent mental health risk; individuals themselves, carers, relatives, GPs, the Police, paramedics, and other professionals.A benefit of the job is that you will be working within a very dedicated, hard working and supportive team of clinicians. There is a band 7 Team Leader and also a Clinical band 7 Lead, both of whom have worked for the service since 2015. MHRRS clinicians really care about achieving the best outcomes for the users of the service.
