Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for Band 7 Senior Mental Health Practitioners to join the new Single Point of Access in West Sussex. The postholder will take a lead on developing partnership working between SPoA and the Integrated Front Door. Ensuring smooth pathways and transitions for young people who are referred into SPoA. You will be based with the SPoA team in Worthing but it is expected you wills spend some of your time located with the Integrated Front Door in Horsham

The SPOA is designed for children, young people, their families, carers and relevant professionals to ensure that they can access the most appropriate emotional wellbeing, mental health support and intervention which meets their needs at the earliest possible stage and with the minimum delay.

The SPOA aims:

  • An integrated aligned and co-ordinated service is in place
  • More CYP have access to appropriate mental health services first time
  • More CYP have positive experiences of care and support
  • Time taken to receive treatment and support is reduced
  • Improved data collection and evaluation of CYP's outcome

Main duties of the job

  • To take a leadership role in developing partnership working between SPOA and the Integrated Front Door
  • To provide clear pathways between SPOA and IFD and participate in relevant meetings between agencies
  • Offer high quality screening of referrals, discussing with referrers as required and ensuring they receive an appropriate and clinically sound response.
  • To engage with young people and their families to undertake risk assessments where appropriate and ensure appropriate signposting for referrals, with clear written responses containing a rationale for the decision,
  • To liaise with agencies receiving referrals from SPOA, identify opportunities for support whilst waiting for the referral to be processed and respond to any queries or concerns from professionals / parents
  • To ensure clinical risk is managed within the SPOA and concerns are escalated appropriately
  • To decide on an appropriate course of action with the professionals involved, providing advice, support and knowledge of appropriate resources for the emotional wellbeing of children, young people and their families
  • To demonstrate awareness and knowledge of the different role applications of the SPOA in a number of contexts, and skills to maintain boundaries, accountability and responsibilities
  • To work alongside the Team Lead and SPoA manager to demonstrate knowledge and skills to plan and critically evaluate SPOA development to meet the mental health needs of children and young people

Essential

  • Professional registered qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development, in a field relevant to child and adolescent mental health
  • Evidence of clinical training in a field relevant to the post eg brief psychotherapy, solution focused approaches, cognitive behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing, or systemic therapy

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Highly specialist knowledge of child and adolescent mental health.
  • Significant level of experience of working with children and families, including work with child mental health needs.
  • To be able to recognise in children and young people a wide range of clinical and behavioural presentations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to safeguard and protect children and young people's welfare in line with the Children Act 2004 requirements
  • Demonstrate skills to assess risk using already established assessment tools
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills for systemic assessment of risk factors in the environment and skills to develop a range of strategies to address identified risk
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills for development of protocols with families and other staff / practitioners to manage risk
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitude to promote safety for themselves and others
  • Experience of mental health assessment and implementation of arrange of evidence based therapeutic interventions.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Social and Caring Services, Education and the Voluntary Sector, together with the relevant legislation regarding both children and mental health
  • Experience of working in partnership with other agencies, and multi-disciplinary working
