Senior Clinical Psychologist (Preceptorship considered)

Job summary

Exciting opportunities have arisen for Senior Clinical Psychologists or recently qualified psychologists interested in preceptorship roles. We require motivated and dynamic Clinical Psychologists to join our growing team offering input to adult mental health inpatient facilities within Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Posts are available across Barrow, Blackpool, Chorley,and Whalley and it may be that you wish to have two posts together to create a full time post.

Candidates who do not yet meet all Band 8a requirements may be appointed to a Band 7 preceptorship role. They will follow a structured development programme to build the competencies needed for progression to Band 8a. This development and assessment period can last up to two years and is overseen by the relevant professional lead for the post.

Main duties of the job

o To provide a Clinical Psychology Service to patients of the nominated team including the provision of enhanced specialist psychological assessment and therapy.

o To offer advice, supervision and consultation on patient's psychological care to psychology and non-psychology colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.

o This could include the supervision of the delivery and evaluation of structured therapeutic groups delivered by assistant psychologists

o To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area in which the post holder works.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.

Knowledge

Essential

  • An increased level of knowledge equivalent to a post-graduate diploma (in addition to entry level qualification).
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the client group.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of multi-disciplinary care plan.
