Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust

Assistant Psychologist

The closing date is 30 September 2025

Job summary

We are excited to offer three 1 year fixed-term vacancy for Assistant Psychologists in The Bay (Lancaster & Morecambe, South Lakes and Furness).

The post holder will be an integral and valued team member of their respective teams, with the support of Clinical Psychologists and other multidisciplinary colleagues, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and support workers. The postholder will receive weekly clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

The post holder will gain experience in psychological assessment, developing psychological formulations of specific problems, delivering 1:1 and group interventions. The role also involves engaging in indirect work within the team, with family members, carers and external agencies. There will be opportunities to be part of service development projects and to deliver training. An interest in working with individuals with a range of presentations across the lifespan will be essential, as is an interest in developing skills in working within a multidisciplinary framework. We are interested in recruiting people who have gained psychological knowledge and skills through personal experiences; prior paid or voluntary experience is not a requirement of the posts.

Main duties of the job

The Inpatient, CMHT and Home Treatment Teams provide services to people with complex mental health needs. Psychologically informed care and psychological therapies are valued within the teams and network. It is hoped that the three roles can support each other and work together to help develop access to, and understanding of, psychology within the Adult Mental Health.

The posts will sit as part of a wider team of psychological practitioners working within The Bay area. Working across the locality means that there may be opportunities for the post holders to develop innovative connections with the wider community. The successful applicant will be welcomed as part of a service which will encourage the development of specific interests and will value further career development.

Whilst the base for these roles would be Lancaster and Morecambe, the expectation would be that you would work across the locality (The Bay - South Lakes, Furness and Lancaster & Morecambe). The roles require working from multiple bases as well as travelling between bases and, for CMHT and HTT posts, within the community. There is an option for hybrid working to align with service need.
