Job summary

The post holder will lead a team of registered nurses and nursing assistants in the delivery of mental health care. The post holder will promote the interests of service users and ensure that delegated nursing care is effectively implemented in a safe manner. The post holder will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments, across professional boundaries and in unfamiliar situations. The post holder will use research, audit, enquiry and scholarship to plan, implement and evaluate concepts and strategies leading to improvements in care.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to fully engage in the process for yourself and provide direct line management and supervision for others.o To actively provide effective clinical leadership and take charge of the ward when on dutyo To provide leadership and support to the other inpatient wards whilst on dutyo To deliver prescribed care to a defined group of patients within an agreed frameworko To plan and implement a structured approach to nursing care which takes account of service user choiceo To accurately observe service users in order to assess needs and evaluate progresso To promote an environment for effective practice, complying with all health and safety requirementsThe successful post holder will be expected to work shifts covering 24 hours, seven days a week and both full and part time contracts are available. Ramsey Unit is a 15 bedded mental health unit for those individuals with dementia

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

  • Diploma/BSC (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing State registered with recognised body.
  • Post Graduate training relevant to mental health work in appropriate speciality.
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Nurse mentor.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of how mental health problems impact on individual functioning and how this is managed in a community setting.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in community mental health, and awareness of relevant government directives and legislation.
  • Specialist knowledge and application of mental health assessments and interventions using expert level clinical reasoning.
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own and others priorities.
