We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Adult Inpatient Unit at the Harbour on a part time, permanent contract. The post involves working alongside experienced Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants, Recovery Support Workers and the Multidisciplinary Team with inpatients experiencing acute mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside the OT Team on the adult wards and will support the ward OTs with assessing patients within the hospital, community and home environments and supporting with patient centred care and timely discharges to home or the most appropriate placement. They will also be expected to participate in supervision of support staff and assist in local developments related to the Occupational Therapy department and wider hospital community.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE/level 5 or above in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Qualification in health or care e.g.NVQ LEVEL 4, Training to Diploma or foundation level, Assistant practitioner qualification.
  • Relevant Qualifications for example sports therapy, personal training, etc.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of Occupational Therapy.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the client group with which the post holder will work e.g. Mental health difficulties.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the importance of being able to do the things, they want or need to do to people's mental well-being.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the concepts of recovery.

  • Previous experience of working in a support worker role with people who experience mental health difficulties with an understanding of the roles of other professions within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working with people with a broad range of Mental Health conditions and people who have cognitive, physical, learning disability or challenging behaviour.
  • Previous experience working in therapy/care settings e.g. inpatient settings or social services agency/department.
  • Experience of teaching patients and carers.
