Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a flexible individual who would like to join the well-established and successful Phlebotomy Team for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. The service was established in 2002 and has grown in size over the years to meet demand. We are exceptionally proud of our Team and the dynamic high quality services we provide.

The role will require you to work clinically within a variety of settings to include, GP practices via appointment system and Community Clinics via drop in sessions. The service also provides a Domiciliary Service to our housebound population, of which successful applicants will be required to participate.

As a Phlebotomist you will be required to mentor junior staff and guide them daily whilst at work, providing support and encouragement. You will also be expected to think dynamically and contribute to service improvements.

We are looking for a committed and compassionate Phlebotomist who puts the patient at the heart of everything they do. You will be motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You will also possess the ability to work equally from your own initiative or as part of a Team. Previous experience in Phlebotomy is essential.

Applicants must be willing to work a 5 days 8am-4pm

Main duties of the job

To perform venepuncture within community based clinics, GP surgeries and domiciliary sessions.To support the delivery of training and clinically supervise newly trained staff including other health professionals in a clinical or domiciliary setting.To work within a flexible roster system to ensure service delivery.Liaise with other members of the Phlebotomy team, Primary Health Care Team, Clinic Supervisors, Pathology Services, patients and carers to ensure that all relevant information is made known to the relevant individuals.Participate in regular team briefings, providing comment and feedback promoting the sharing of information.Report all incidents and concerns around service provision to the line manager and complete IRIS as appropriateMaintain confidentiality of information about patients and all health service business to ensure that any information gained must not be communicated to any other person except in the course of duty.Communicate with colleagues including Phlebotomy team leader and deputy team leader to ensure stock levels are adequately maintainedCarry out venepuncture on paediatric or patients with enhanced needs who may require a greater degree of patient engagement using a variety of communication strategies
