Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pennine Lancashire Older Adult Community Mental Health Team and Rapid Intervention and Treatment Team.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate assistant psychologist with a genuine interest in older adult mental health. We require someone who is organised, can work autonomously and has excellent people skills.

The teams specialise in providing a variety of approaches to support older people with complex mental health difficulties. You will work closely with the Psychology team and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant will assist in the delivery of psychological care to older adults with complex mental health difficulties.This will include delivery of a range of assessments and interventions with older adults under supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist. There will also be opportunities to support with audits and service related research.

The teams are based at Balladen House in Rawtenstall and cover a large geographical area (covering Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn & Ribble Valley, Rossendale). There will be some requirements to travel to other venues across the locality including visiting service users in their homes.

Main duties of the job

To work within Pennine Lancashire Older Adult Community Mental Health Team and Rapid Intervention and Treatment Team.

To support the qualified Clinical Psychologists with assessment and formulation of older adult patients' needs.

To assist in the administration and interpretation of outcome related measures, collation and recording of statistics and production of relevant reports.

Under supervision from a qualified psychologist to assist in the professional and psychological care of clients within the service across all sectors of care by providing basic aspects of psychological assessment and psychological interventions.

All clinical work and actions to take place under the management and supervision of qualified psychology staff according to an agreed plan and associated goals within parameters set out by the Division of Clinical Psychology and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust departmental policies and procedures in connection with Assistant Psychologists.

Formal supervision with a named member of qualified psychology staff to take place on a weekly basis to facilitate work with additional frequent opportunities for informal contact with qualified psychology staff for guidance and advice.

Driving is a requirement of this post. Clinical activity involves sitting, often in a constrained position for long periods of time. Related activities will require the use of a VDU screen for approximately 50% of working hours.
