Job summary

Pennine Lancashire is seeking a Health Care Support Worker to joinour Mental Health Liaison Team at Royal Blackburn Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity and the successful candidate will be part of an evolving service that has the needs of our service users at its heart. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic to come and join a forward thinking, dynamic and constantly developing team.

Main duties of the job

Whilst working as part of the team you will be required to:-

Work as an integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), working within a rotational shift system to support patients according to their care needs, some of whom may present with complex mental health presentations or a deterioration in their mental health and are in crisis.

Contribute to, and participate in the on- going support of patients and their carers. Contribute to the protection of patients, from abuse.Contribute to the health, safety and security of patients and their environment. Obtain, transmit and store information relating to the delivery of a care service.

Essential

  • NVQ Level III or Higher in Health and Social Care or QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care or an Interest in completing the above training or can demonstrate the equivalent skills and knowledge gained through work (paid/unpaid)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the issues surrounding mental illness.
  • Understands their duties and responsibilities under the Data Protection Act with regard to patient confidentiality.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working with people with mental health conditions who are complex and are in a crisis

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Can demonstrate a clear commitment to the Trust values and can provide practical examples.
  • Works within a non-judgemental manner
  • Can communicate effectively with a wide range of people which includes patients, carers, nurses, Occupational therapists, Managers, doctors, external consultants (e.g. CQC, Audit). Has basic IT/keyboard skills
