Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and creative band 3 Health Care Support Worker, to work on a busy, award winning, small male PICU in the heart of West Lancashire.

We are a 4 bedded male PICU, with a compact and committed staff team who all strive towards providing our service users with an excellent inpatient experience. We do this in part through our commitment to reducing restrictive practices, the use of activity on the ward and by providing the staff team access to a wide range of training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The team have recently won awards from within LSCFT, including enhancing the patient experience with a cycling project, a locality award for outstanding contributions to quality and patient safety, and winning the Trust wide award for outstanding contribution to service user and carer experience.

Essential

  • NVQ Level III or Higher in Health and Social Care or QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Interest in completing the above training or can demonstrate the equivalent skills and knowledge gained through work (paid/unpaid)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the issues surrounding mental illness.
  • Understands their duties and responsibilities under the Data Protection Act with regard to patient confidentiality.

Experience

Essential

  • Working in a caring environment. For example, nursing home, care home, hospital ward, home carer etc.
  • Up to date or working knowledge of de- escalation techniques, Control and restraint and Management of Violence and Aggression (MOVA)
  • Working as part of a team.

Skills

  • Works within a non-judgemental manner
  • Can communicate effectively with a wide range of people which includes patients, carers, nurses, Occupational therapists, Managers, doctors, external consultants (e.g. CQC, Audit).
