Mental Health Nurse Urgent Care and Access-£7k Incentive

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 practitioner to join the Fylde Coast Urgent Care and access service. This role will give the practitioner a unique opportunity to develop knowledge and skills and gain experience working in Mental Health Liaison (MHLT), Home Based treatment team (HBTT) and Initial Response Service (IRS).

You will rota between the three teams every 6 months with a mix of days and night shifts.

You will also be supported by the community matron who will provide supervision alongside the supervision you will receive from your clinical supervisor in each of the teams.

The urgent care and access service offer 24-hour support to service users, and their families/carers, who are suffering from mental health concerns.

Home Based Treatment Team support people living in the community, aged 16 years old or above who have moderate to complex or serious mental health problems across Lancashire.

The teams have various functions including assessment, gate keeping and a home based treatment function as an alternative to admission. This also includes facilitating early discharge from hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Mental Health Liaison team provides a comprehensive service to patients/service users, carers and clinical colleagues based within our acute trusts.

This involves:

o Offering an assessment service to patients presenting with a range of mental health and psychological problems, over the age of 16 yrs. of age.

o Providing a mental health consultation-liaison and advice service

o Delivering a range of interventions to individual patients and their families, as appropriate

o Assisting and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations

o Providing formal and informal education and clinical supervision to registered and unregistered staff.

o Representing mental health services within the general hospital

o Providing a communication structure between the general hospital, secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services, as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care

Following assessment, discuss and agree with the band 7 practitioner, the most appropriate pathway, signposting and were an inpatient stay is potentially required refer to the Enhanced Gatekeeping MDT.

Co-ordinate 136 MHA presentations in the A&E Department and support Section 136 Suites co-located with MHDUs.

*The £7k Welcome Bonus package applies to this role. The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 6 months of employment. This bonus is applicable from 1st July 2024 - 30th September 2024.

The £7k Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. The amount a new starter would receive is shown in the Welcome Bonus Payment Schedule below:

£3,000 after 2 months of employment (counted from start date with LSCFT)

£2,000 after 12 months

£2,000 after 24 months
