Job summary

Since its launch, the Initial Response Service has consistently demonstrated itself to be an integral part of secondary mental health services. It is improving access to mental health support for individuals who need it, whilst reducing demands on care and treatment delivery services. In the most recent CQC report, the IRS was identified as a source of positive change in how mental health services are delivered in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

The Initial Response Service for the Bay operate in four areas; Lancaster, Morecambe, South Lakes and the Furness peninsular. Access and availability to services and support is unique in each geographical area, and our goal is to deliver consistently high quality services to people who need our support, wherever they are calling from.

The Clinical Lead plays integral role within the IRS and is a key force in improving safety, service and quality. Along with the Team Leader, You will be tasked with overseeing a large team of Mental Health Practitioners, Call Handlers and Administrators. The Clinical Lead plays a critical role in overseeing the shifts, ensuring resources are balanced and reflective of demand which varies day to day.

Main duties of the job

The relationships the IRS has with other mental health teams is pivotal, and the clinical lead will work to develop relationships and practices to better improve processes and outcomes for patients. You will be keen to develop a knowledge base of each area to identify services and how they can meet varying needs of patients.

The IRS is a process led team, and Mental Health Practitioners need to adapt to the way IRS operates. You will play a key role in ensuring practitioners are offered frequent supervision, training and support in their role assessing and triaging patients with varying needs (and risks).

The IRS vision is to deliver a triage and assessment service to the highest standards. We are seeking applicants that share this vision and have the enthusiasm skill and ability to continue developing and improving the team and its services.

The Clinical Lead role is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a dynamic service in its infancy.

Duties will include:

Undertaking expert assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

Supervising and teaching professionals from the multi-disciplinary teams, qualified and unqualified staff.

Working in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies to ensure effectiveness of outcomes.

Providing clinical leadership and support the Team Manager in ensuring high quality care across the 24hr/7 day cycle of care.
