Job Title: Occupational Therapist, Autism Intensive Support Service
In December 2022 Lancashire and South Cumbria ICS setup the Children and Young peoples Autism Intensive Support Service (CYP AISS) as a new initiative to provide specialist intervention for autistic children and young people who may be experiencing difficult periods in their life. Some of these challenges may prevent them from being able to access education, activities of choice and from functioning as intended. Some children and young people that we work with may be at risk of admission to a Tier 4 hospital and others at risk of their placements breaking down. In such circumstances, CYP AISS offer person centered intervention, in an approach tailored to individual need to support the individual and their support network to achieve further understanding about their experiences and seek to achieve a period of stability.
Our team delivers holistic, formulation driven care planning derived from multidisciplinary decision making for autistic children aged between 4 and 18 years old whose needs cannot solely be met by existing services, who are in crisis and therefore presenting as distressed. To date we have supported autistic young people and their support networks who have experienced a number of challenges including high levels of anxiety, unforeseen changes within their life, challenges with transitions and sensory and communication differences which haven't yet been fully explored and understood.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the assessment, treatment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence - based specialist Occupational Therapy intervention within the Children's Autism Intensive Support Service.
The post holder will promote health and reduce inequalities for all patients accessing the service, so that they may be able to maximise their potential in terms of health education and social well-being through personalisation and keeping the child at the heart of the family.
