Job summary

Due to additional funding to support the community services within the Bay locality, an opportunity has arisen to recruit an experienced clinical pharmacist, with a specialist interest in mental health to take up a post working closely with the Home Treatment Team. The Bay locality covers a large geographical area within Lancaster, Morecambe, South Cumbria and surrounding areas. In conjunction with the Initial Response Service (IRS), the successful candidate will also provide clinical pharmacy support across the urgent care pathway in the locality.

You will work closely with clinical teams as part of a multi-disciplinary approach addressing the care needs of patients and service users. You will also ensure safe and effective medicines management processes within the service. This will include compliance with regulatory medicines management standards and implementation of medicines safety alerts. As a senior member of the pharmacy team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Trust initiatives and priorities.

Main duties of the job

The post provides an opportunity for the following: -

  • Development of a non-medical prescribing role
  • Pharmaceutical care planning and clinical review of prescriptions
  • Involvement of service users in decisions about their medicines to optimise treatment, support adherence and improve outcomes
  • Provision of specialist pharmaceutical advice to the multi-disciplinary team
  • Provision of clinical supervision and professional leadership to other members of the team
  • Involvement in service redesign and development to ensure effective medicines management support and strategies

  • Attendance at strategic network meetings e.g. locality governance meetings
  • Actively working to contribute to and deliver the Trust medicines optimisation strategy

This presents a great opportunity for enthusiastic and experienced pharmacists motivated by the desire to improve patient care to perform this key position within the MDT.

The roles demand an organised, flexible individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work on their own initiative. We welcome flexible working applications and job shares.

The funding allows the opportunity for flexibility in hours and geographical location with the potential to some home working within the working week.

About us

There is an additional vacancy within the IRS service for a full time band 8a pharmacist post (37.5 hrs 1.0 WTE) and therefore there is some flexibility around additional hours or role share for suitable candidates. We welcome flexible working applications and job shares.

You will have current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience, and previous experience in mental health. A qualification as a non-medical prescriber or postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatry would be desirable but applicants with a willingness to work towards these qualifications will be considered.

There is no current requirement to work on-call, Bank Holidays or weekends.

Due to the location of various units, an ability and willingness to travel around Trust locations is required.

The Clinical Pharmacy service is highly regarded within the organisation and should you wish to join our team you will become one of a large team of Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Medicines Management Nurses and Pharmacy Assistants working across the Trust.
