Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and creative band 6 nurse, with either a mental health or learning disability nursing qualification, to work on a busy, award winning, small male PICU in the heart of West Lancashire.
We are a 4 bedded male PICU, with a compact and committed staff team who all strive towards providing our service users with an excellent inpatient experience. We do this in part through our commitment to reducing restrictive practices, the use of activity on the ward and by providing the staff team access to a wide range of training and development opportunities.
The team have recently won awards from within LSCFT, including enhancing the patient experience with a cycling project, a locality award for outstanding contributions to quality and patient safety, and winning the Trust wide award for outstanding contribution to service user and carer experience.
The positions available will be suitable for both experienced and newly qualified nurses from either a mental health or learning disability background. We ask that you are motivated, creative in your approach and eager to enhance the inpatient experience.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical input into the designated inpatient area. This will include the screening of admitted patients in conjunction with the inpatient MDT in order to determine which require input from the post holder in respect of facilitation of early discharge and/or implementation of comprehensive assessments. The facilitation of early discharge function will involve the post holder actively facilitating discharge to an appropriate environment as soon as patients are clinically stable and fit for discharge. Assessment function will involve the post holder undertaking in depth psychologically informed assessments utilising structured and psychometric measures routinely to develop holistic formulations of patient's needs and difficulties. The post holder will actively communicate findings with the inpatient MDT and through ward processes in order to inform effective decision making and care planning. The post holder will use their experience and in depth knowledge of assessed patients to guide and clinically supervise band 5 nurses in the designated inpatient area in their care planning and delivery of care.
