Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Psychological Therapist, currently registered with HCPC or BABCP, to work within the Adult Mental Health Pathway in Lancaster & Morecambe. This role will be carried out in collaboration with other psychological therapists, 2 Consultant Clinical Psychologists working into the teams, and assisted by another 2 principal psychologists, and two assistant psychologists.

The core role will be to provide a specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention with adults with moderate to severe mental health problems. We support our staff to deliver high quality and innovative psychological solutions with service-users through consultation, individual, and group work, and we are keen to expand psychological leadership in the teams to develop the use of formulation and reflective practice.

We are committed to CPD and there will be opportunities for post-qualification support, supervision and consolidation of core and specialist competencies, alongside more experienced colleagues both locally and across the county.

Main duties of the job

We are keen to offer a broad clinical role as well as work with the teams through training, supervision, and consultation.

All staff will have an agreed Job Plan which protects their core clinical commitments and allocated time for other aspects of their roles.

We are keen to make sure that the posts we advertise can be sustainable, and retention is as important as recruitment.

We would welcome the co-construction of a shared and meaningful job plan and the implementation of a development and training pathway in line with community or clinical interests, and applicants will be supported to develop a research or community engagement project as part of their role.

The postholder will also be encouraged to form links with the other psychological therapists in The Bay and across the trust, with Best Practice and Special Interest Groups, as well as form part of a supportive psychology network in the Lancaster & Morecambe area.

We are particularly interested in help developing a local formal and informal support system for our mental health staff.

As well as having a clinical caseload, there will also be opportunities to develop and consolidate clinical skills, through indirect work, consultation, delivering training, and service development/audit activities.

To provide specialist psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions based on evidence based therapeutic models to clients and their families/carers, working as part of the Adult Community Mental Health Service.

Essential

  • Either - Doctoral level or equivalent training in clinical/counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS.
  • Or - Core professional qualification and significant experience together with a postgraduate diploma in CBT

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised therapeutic intervention
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health; knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Skills in the use of specialist methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
