Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner Post within East Lancashire Acute Therapy Service (ATS) based at Bridge House, Duckworth Street, Whalley Banks, Blackburn, BB2 1NT

The ATS is a psychologically-led service that provides an alternative to inpatient admission for emotionally dysregulated individuals who are in crisis. The aim of the service is to provide brief structured psychological input based on DBT principles. The service also provides practical, occupational and social support and respite, in a safe and containing environment.

The successful applicant will hold a core professional qualification (Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist), it is expected that they will have a good knowledge of DBT principles and broad experience of working in Adult Mental Health Services, with experience of working in the field of personality disorder. A qualification in the delivery of DBT would be advantageous.

Regular management and clinical supervision will be provided and there will be opportunities to develop clinical and professional practice in line with service user needs and organisational values.

Main duties of the job

The overall aim of the post is to provide high quality specialist interventions within a therapeutic environment to improve outcomes for service users across LSCFT.

The duties will include assessment of risk and care planning for individuals attending ATS who will present with complex needs and emotional dysregulation. As this is a DBT-led service the post holder will work alongside the ATS Team Leader, run DBT skills groups and ensure that the service is model adherent. Additionally the role will involve managerial responsibilities as guided by the Team Leader.

To promote positive attitudes towards service users with complex needs, to maintain responsive and non-stigmatising services, which will enhance social inclusion and deliver better outcomes.

To provide gatekeeping assessments, assessments of need and therapeutic interventions.

Supporting service users to develop skills and strategies to manage emotional dysregulation, this work is guided by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles.

To work closely/strengthen links with other specialist agencies as appropriate.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of team policies and procedure.

To provide supervision to staff Band 5 and below.

To provide leadership/management as guided by the Team Leader.

To work across all three ATS sites and facilitate DBT skills groups as and when required.

If delivering DBT full programme, to deliver DBT in accordance with NICE guidelines.
