Job summary

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR in Vocation and Education

Service (OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY)

Salary Scale: Band 4 - 30 hours per week

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate, creative and keenly motivated to join our well established and innovative occupational therapy team at Guild Lodge. You will be part of a team working alongside service users and staff to promote the importance of vocation and educational opportunities within a secure mental health hospital.

Main duties of the job

As a technical instructor being based and working within a secure environment your role will focus on developing a clear vocational/educational pathway for inpatients. There will be opportunities for you to identify and establish links not just within the hospital but also the wider community. A key aspect of this role will be to develop working relationships with partners within the community and set up vocational and educational meaningful roles. Predictable structure routine as well as the protective factors of work and education play and integral part within the model used within the service.

We have a range of excellent environments and opportunities for services users - namely a large Therapeutic Resources Centre & Sports Hall (that includes pottery, art rooms, and library, kitchen and gym/sport facilities) as well as the Tarnbrook Vocational Unit (this has metal and woodwork as well as silversmithing, horticulture and IT resources).

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in care/equivalent training to Diploma level in an area of vocation- i.e. carpentry, plumbing, tiling, construction (time served experience considered)

Desirable

  • Ability to undertake Positive and Safe training
  • First Aid training or be willing to gain within 6 months of appointment

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to network with other agencies
  • A knowledge of the benefits of vocation/education as an intervention as well as awareness of community resources that support this in your area of expertise.

Experience

  • Previous teamwork

Desirable
