Job summary

Job Purpose :

Contractor Escorts are required to ensure the security and safety of contractors working in an area of high security where there are patients with a known violent, criminal or dangerous propensity.

The role may also necessitate a high degree of flexibility with the post holder working at all locations across the Secure Division.

Main duties of the job

To have knowledge and skills to carry out all security duties as stated in the NHS Safety and Security Directives and in the Ashworth Security Procedures Manual

Supervise Contractors and their tools around the High Secure environment including on inpatient areas, requiring vigilance at all times and a requirement to be aware of risks at al times.

In the event of a security incident take action to safeguard contractors, colleagues, staff and themselves.

Ensure that external contractors are escorted and supervised whilst working in the High Secure site and are compliant with the security procedures operated within High Secure.

Ensure the safe movement of vehicles around the secure site ensuring that the safety and security of patients, staff and contractors is maintained.

Maintain communication with the Control Centre via the Hospitals radio network to ensure minimum disruption to the high secure site and to ensure that the safety and security of the site, staff, patients and visitors is maintained.

Ensure the accurate checking, secure storage and recording of tools used by external contracting staff at all times.

Be responsible for identifying errors on contractor documentation regarding tools being brought on site and alerting the Security Search department to ensure that all documentation is accurate.

Ensure that any tools or implements being brought on site are necessary for the task being undertaken.
