Job summary

An exciting opportunity to work within the Trust Transport Department as required. The driver is responsible for driving, service users/patients to A&E and outpatient departments, transfer patients between differentMersey Care units including High secure units, also transfer service users/Patients to hospitals and courts nationwide, transport staff, goods and trust visitors utilising the appropriate trust vehicles.

Main duties of the job

Job description

Job responsibilities

To transport all Mersey care service users/patients between different units within Mersey Care, also to hospital appointments court hearing or other units, any locations deemed necessary by the manager including nationwide.

To participate in training, including Mandatory training as required by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. To participate in performance management, PACE whilst maintaining personal responsibility to ensure that all required training is kept up to date.

To adhere to and follow Trust and departmental procedures.

The post holder will be expected to act as a team member in all areas of the Trust.

To carry out daily vehicle maintenance checks and taking appropriate action as required. Work with other members of the Transport Department to ensure that vehicles are clean and fit for purpose at all times and ensuing all documentation complete.

To be accountable for recording accurate information regarding duties, driving hours, mileage, working hours, activities, vehicle searches, financial transactions and other information as required.

To be responsible for reporting to the line manager all untoward incidents and accidents so that the relevant paperwork is completed.

To transport all Mersey Care service users between their place of residence and designated Day Hospitals, Mersey Care Locations, Courts and any other locations in the UK in a safe and secure manner.

To be responsible for operating the GPS system fitted in vehicles and to maintain communication with the Transport office.

To assist patients and staff to enter and exit the vehicle in a safe manner.

Following appropriate training- to be responsible for the securing of powered and manual wheelchairs within the vehicle.

To liaise with and maintain relationships with management, supervisory and nursing staff at all locations.

To be responsible for liaising with relevant clinical staff for any concerns with reference to service users.

Following appropriate training to be responsible for the safe transportation of oxygen across trust sites in line with relevant HSE legislation and guidance

To assist the nursing staff cleaning spillages within the vehicle.

To ensure toilets on the vehicles are empty after use.

To work an On call service as necessary to ensure a continuous 24 hour transport service for the Trust.

  • Clean full UK driving licence
  • D1 entitlement on driving licence
  • Ability to carry out manual and driving tasks, function as a member of a team and support the management objectives of the department and trust
  • Able to use a phone and deal with telephonic requests from service users, managers and staff in a friendly and helpful way
  • Ability to use GPS
  • Transportation of Hazardous materials (oxygen)
  • Able to use a computer for data entry and simple data processing and communication tasks.

Desirable

  • Any trade, catering, laundry, stores, escorting experience in the organisation or similar

Knowledge and experience

  • Excellent geographical knowledge of Merseyside Area and uk
