NHS Talking Therapies Liverpool is part of Mersey Care is a primary care service delivering psychological interventions for people with mild to moderate depression and anxiety related disorders in Liverpool.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner applicants for this training opportunity. You must be able to demonstrate the required academic levels and qualifications in order to successfully complete the 12 month Post Graduate Certificate, which will be taught at Liverpool John Moores University. Therefore applicants must be willing/able to work in Liverpool and attend Uni (this will be an initial 3 week block, followed by a split of 4 days in service and 1 days in university which may be remote).

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a training role within NHS Talking Therapies Liverpool. The post-holders time will be split between working within the service and undertaking a programme of study at university. The training will equip the postholder to provide a range of high volume low intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) basedinterventions, to those experiencing mild to moderate anxiety disorders and depression. The postholder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within National Low Intensity curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The step 2 workforce is integral to the successful running of any NHS Talking Therapies service. The post-holder will therefore work alongside Support Workers / Assistant PWPs and qualified PWPs, with caseload supervision and managerial support from a Senior PWP and Team Lead.

Undertake patient-centred interviews which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, refers unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the persons treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.

Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.

Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.

Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

Essential

  • Evidence of ability to successfully complete undergraduate degree or equivalent (min 2.2)
  • Evidence of ability to manage academic requirements for the course i.e. being able to complete a level 6 study programme

Desirable

  • Training in nursing, social work, occ therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy
  • Health or Social care related degree

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
  • Proven relevant experience of working with people with common mental health problems
  • Demonstrate an ability to manager own workload and time
  • Demonstrates an ability of high communication skills - written, verbal, telephone
  • Demonstrates an ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training
  • Computer literate

  • Experience of working as an IAPT Support Worker / Asst PWP
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health
