Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Nursing position within the Mental Health Care Division Urgent Care Service Line.

The service comprises of 2 Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team Services, 5 CORE 24 and Liaison Services, 2 Crisis Lines, Liaison and Diversion Services, Several Street Triage Services a Mental Health Response Vehicle, as well as a number of places of safety. As well as the existing services outlined there are a number of projects and pilots planned over coming months which will see the Service Line grow and evolve in line with the Trusts Operational and Clinical priorities.

The Services outlined cover the population of Liverpool, Sefton, Warrington, Halton, St Helens and Knowsley.

A number of Services are undergoing some form of transformation in line with national crisis agendas such as NHS 111 Mental Health Option, the NHS Long Term Plan and the newly published suicide prevention strategy, this makes for an exciting time to join an experienced and committed Leadership Team.

The post holder will work side by side with clinical service managers and the wider leadership team in assuring the delivery of excellent high quality patient care. The post holder will have a sound understanding of Urgent care mental health services, be autonomous in their thinking, hold a passion for quality improvement and have the ability to influence evidence based service improvements within a busy and fast pace environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical leadership and highly specialist expertise in the provision of high quality nursing care across the Urgent Care Service Line. They will be expected to lead and deliver upon key work streams within the portfolio and represent the Mental Health Care Division within Trust wide meetings. As part of their role the post holder will provide day to day operational stability, deputising for the Assistant Director of Nursing retaining authority and making day to day clinical operational decisions in their absence.

The Head of Nursing will support the Assistant Director of Nursing in providing leadership and ensuring clinical effectiveness in shaping the direction and delivery of Urgent Care Services. They will oversee compliance with all aspects of clinical governance including risk management, clinical audit, patient safety, CQC and patient experience. The post holder will play a key role in embedding PSIRF principles and methodology, promoting the service line patient experience strategy and driving continuous learning and innovative service improvements to ensure the delivery of high quality person centred safe and effective care.

  • Registered Nurse with current registration
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Masters level qualification or appropriate theoretical knowledge
  • Management or leadership qualification at postgraduate level or equivalent experience

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a management role in the NHS or large multi-functional public or commercial environment
