Job summary

Base: One of two main hubs in the City of Liverpool (Fazakerley or City Centre)

We want to recruit enthusiastic, motivated and flexible qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) practitioners to join our NHS Talking Therapies service. Applicants need to be accredited with the BABCP, or able to achieve accreditation within a year of their employment start date.

This is an exciting time to join Talking Therapies Liverpool; we are growing our service so that we are able to reach more people across the City and engage them in therapeutic support.

We are also moving to integrate a Long Term Health Conditions branch into the service, for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. Applications from those with an interest in Long Term Conditions, and who have experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems within this population, are particularly welcomed and further training may be provided.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users' and their carers.

The post holder will undertaking IAPT/Talking Therapies approved high intensity treatment with service users and work within an IAPT/Talking Therapies approved supervision framework.

Job responsibilities

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.

Assess clients for suitability for psychological interventions.

Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary.

Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.

Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients in line with the service.

Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.

Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.

Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.

Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations, and help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback.

Liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies in the care provided clients.

Provide specialist advice and consultation to other professionals/ individuals/ groups/ committees across Mental Health Trusts, Primary Care Trusts and other voluntary agencies regarding service matters related to the practice and delivery of specific agreed therapeutic modalities and service provision.

Essential

  • For CBT posts: Post Graduate Diploma, or equivalent Post Graduate level CBT Training certificate which confers eligibility for BABCP accreditation.
  • For Counselling posts: Diploma in Counselling from a recognised course which meets the requirements for BACP Accreditation AND having completed the IAPT/Talking Therapies Counselling for Depression (CfD) course (or be willing to undertake an IAPT/Talking Therapies accredited course upon commencing in the service in CfD / IPT / DiT).
  • For IPT / DIT / EMDR posts: Completed qualification in an IAPT/Talking Therapies recognised course which meets the requirements for relevant Accreditation.
