As a Network Engineer within NHS Informatics Merseyside, you will manage our intricate network infrastructure, ensuring the provision of secure and dependable network services to improve clinical operations and enhance patient outcomes. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing network solutions and maintaining network security in compliance with relevant standards and policies.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technologies, such as network automation, VoIP, wireless, and SD-WAN. You will be responsible for designing and implementing these solutions, in addition to providing technical support and troubleshooting when needed.
Main duties of the job
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
- Network Project implementation.
- Design and Improvement of new and existing infrastructure.
- Fault finding and Problem resolution on Data and Voice infrastructure.
- Standard Incident Management.
- Maintaining documentation.
- On call support in a rota with other engineers
Demonstrable experience in working in a network service function is essential to ensure that the candidate has the relevant experience to be effective in this role form the start especially within a Cisco VOIP environment. Candidates will be expected to have current CCNP/CCVP qualifications or equivalent. The ability to work unsupervised in a professional manner is also required as the role often involves travel to sites throughout Merseyside.
To have lead responsibility for the operational management, implementation, and maintenance of voice and data communication networks for all Partners and Customers of Informatics Merseyside ensuring the provision of continuous and acceptable service to all end users.

Network Engineer responsibilities include:

Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)

Support and maintenance for Cisco Call Manager and Mitel VoIP systems

Support and maintenance of Voice recording solutions

Support and maintenance of e-fax solutions

Support and maintenance for a SIP solution providing VoIP and e-fax services to over 10,000 subscribers

Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations

Out of hours on call requirement in a rota with other senior team members
