Clinical Group Chief Executive - North Manchester Clinical Group

The closing date is 03 May 2026

Job summary

Lead one of the most significant place-based transformation programmes in the NHS.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest and most complex NHS organisations in England, with over 30,000 staff and a turnover exceeding £3bn. We are seeking an exceptional senior leader to join our Trust Leadership Team as Chief Executive of the North Manchester General Hospital Clinical Group.

Reporting to the Trust Chief Executive, this is a pivotal executive leadership role, combining responsibility for the safe, high quality and sustainable delivery of hospital services with leadership of one of the most ambitious hospital redevelopment programmes in the NHS.

North Manchester General Hospital serves some of the most diverse and deprived communities in England and has been confirmed as a Wave 1 New Hospital Programme scheme, with around £1.5bn of planned investment. We are looking for a leader with the credibility, resilience and judgement to operate at scale, balance operational grip with long-term transformation, and engage communities and partners around a compelling vision for the future of care in North Manchester.

Main duties of the job

As Chief Executive of the North Manchester General Hospital Clinical Group, you will provide visible, credible and values-led leadership across a complex portfolio of acute services. You will lead a senior multi-professional leadership team, with full accountability for quality, safety, operational performance, workforce and financial delivery, ensuring services are consistently safe, effective and patient focused.

You will be a senior leader with experience of working at Board level within large, complex organisations, bringing the authority and maturity to lead through challenge, pace and scrutiny. You will work closely with Executive Directors, clinical leaders and system partners to drive improvement, reduce health inequalities and deliver sustainable services aligned to the Trust strategy, Where Excellence Meets Compassion.

A key element of the role is leadership of the North Manchester General Hospital redevelopment and wider regeneration programme. You will require the confidence to lead major transformation, the skills to work effectively across organisational and system boundaries, and the ability to inspire staff, partners and local communities through inclusive and compassionate leadership.

About us

As a senior leader at MFT, you will shape strategy and transformation at scale, working alongside a diverse, high-performing executive team. Our £3bn plus turnover and leading-edge digital infrastructure, including the Hive EPR, enable us to deliver integrated, patient-centred care and drive continuous improvement.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive, values-led culture where your expertise, vision, and leadership will directly influence organisational direction and population health outcomes.
