Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Radiology Department Assistant

The closing date is 09 April 2026

Job summary

The post is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary within the Ultrasound Department of Radiology. Radiology Department Assistants (RDA) are fundamental to the smooth running of the department, supporting clinical activities in all modalities including CT, MR, Ultrasound and Fluoroscopy. Ultrasound is a busy sub-specialty and we undertake a wide range of examinations and this role provides the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art environment together with a friendly and dedicated team of staff.

You will become a valued member of the department and work closely with the Sonographers and Consultants and also with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The role will suit someone who likes a dynamic role within a friendly department. The varied nature of this role with involvement in very complex cases including interventional procedures makes this role quite exciting.

Previous experience in a healthcare environment is desirable, but not essential. You will assist in the care of the patients during their visit to the department and also clinical staff during procedures. You will prepare for and assist medical staff performing procedures such as biopsies, aspirations and injections and other departmental duties to support the service.

You need to be able to work in a team environment and be able to work under pressure. You will need to be a good communicator as you will have to liaise with both clinical and non-clinical staff. You should also have good telephone skills as you must be able to take messages accurately to allow the other staff to make decisions regarding prioritization of workload.

In return, we will provide a comprehensive induction programme and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate including intravenous cannulation.
