Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

This role offers a chance to broaden your experience and gain meaningful insight into supporting children and young people within an Acute Tertiary Hospital across a range of dynamic clinical areas, which may include Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Oncology, and Metabolic Bone disease

You will work as part of multidisciplinary teams, providing assessment, treatment and intervention for patients. There is regular support and in house training form the senior staff.

Main duties of the job

To manage a clinical caseload working independently without supervision to a high professional standard, consulting senior staff for assistance, advice and support

To modify treatment and treatment management plans in response to the changing needs of a child/young person and parent/carer, ensuring planned interventions are delivered in the most appropriate environment.

To work flexibly, assisting and supporting senior staff in providing occupational therapy to children/young people with complex needs in other specialised areas.

To accept referrals in own clinical area directly from multidisciplinary team and other complex referrals as delegated by senior staff.

To work single-handed for a short period to ensure continuity of service and meet the changing needs of the service, consulting with onsite/offsite senior staff as appropriate

Provide advice, education and support to patients, families, carers and colleagues.

To assess for and prescribe occupational therapy equipment/appliances for a child/young person.

Engage fully with supervision, CPD and training opportunities to support professional growth.

  • HCPC Health and Care Professions Council/ Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy

Desirable

  • Registered member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists

  • Theoretical knowledge & clinical practice e.g. discharge plans, normal movement, treatment approaches
  • Post qualification Clinical experience as an occupational therapist
  • Work experience in a relevant specialist clinical area in an acute adult setting e.g. neurology, orthopaedicss
  • Experience of contributing to developing and evaluating own practice
  • Awareness of implications of cultural diversity
