Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO) is a partnership Organisation established 1st April 2018 to provide and manage integrated community health and social care across the city of Manchester.

The service comes under the MFT-Urgent Care & Specialist Community Service.
The Manchester Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Centre provides a high-quality specialist nursing/midwifery service to the residents of Greater Manchester who are 'at risk' of having or have been found to have an unusual haemoglobin type. Services offered include health management for adults and children, genetic counselling and follow-up as part of the antenatal and new-born screening programmes ,as well as pre-conceptual screening.
The service also supports community groups by providing information and raising awareness of haemoglobinopathies.
The post-holder will primarily be responsible for providing health education, support, clinical advice, screening and genetic counselling of women and their partners in the antenatal period, including prenatal diagnosis issues.
Main duties of the job
Implement & Facilitate counselling/Partner screening at satellite clinics for other MFT sites.Provide counselling and support to patients and their families, considering their physical, social, andpsychological aspects of care, and referring and signposting to other services as necessary.Provide specialist genetic counselling to parents following a Prenatal diagnosis result.Provide input and support to patients, to make an informed choice.as per the MFT/MLCO guidance to antenatal couples.Promote inter-disciplinary support for women and their families by ensuring appropriate referralsand communicating effectively with members of the multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams. Workclosely in partnership with members of the multi-disciplinary team.Effectively communicate to ensure patients and their families receive information that is accessibleand meaningful to them.Attend domiciliary visits to relay Newborn Screening results.
Proactively ensure that Antenatal and New-born screening National Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) are delivered in partnership with St Mary's Hospital and MRI Laboratories and report riskEnsure Antenatal and New-born Screening KPI's are collated monthly and work with our Antenatal &New-born Screening Failsafe Officer.
Promote opportunistic screening and education regarding Haemoglobinopathies.
