Job summary

The Royal Oldham Hospital (ROH) is a large district general hospital in the Northeast of Greater Manchester. There are full acute medical and surgical services including vascular surgery, general surgery, urology, trauma and orthopaedics and obstetrics and gynaecology. Since 2021, the vascular unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital has been managed by Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust (MFT) as part of the reconfiguration of Vascular Services in Greater Manchester. ROH and Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) work collaboratively through shared management, governance, finance and MDT structure to serve the Greater Manchester & East Cheshire Vascular Network.This is an exciting time to join the Greater Manchester & East Cheshire Vascular service. The Vascular units of Central and South Manchester underwent a merger to form an arterial hub on the MRI site in 2021. The ROH functions as the second Greater Manchester arterial unit and serves three spoke hospitals in the Northeast of the city -North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital (hosts the areas acutestroke unit) and Rochdale Infirmary. It is expected that any applicant will be ambitious and engage in opportunities to adapt to change, develop the service, embrace a busy and diverse workload and be an excellent team player.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery,based at the Royal Oldham Hospital site, and supporting the spoke Trusts in our Network across Greater Manchester. This vacancy has arisen following a current colleague moving to a new post. This full-time position will complement the 5 other resident doctors working at ST3+ level in the department (total of two deanery trainees and four locally employed doctors). The appointees will be integral members of the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire vascular service and will participate in a 1 in 6Vascular Surgery on-call and Surgeon of the Week rota at Royal Oldham. This post provides an ideal opportunity for applicants with experience of vascular surgery at CT or junior clinical fellow level to take the next step in their development towards STapplications, or more experienced resident doctors to further their experience on the portfolio pathway
