Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated, qualified Midwife who wants to take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care for women and their families. Working on a shift by shift basis, you'll look after the coordination and effective management of the clinical team and guarantee the maintenance of high standards of quality care in the clinical area. Critically, you'll ensure there is effective and sensitive communication between the women in your care, their babies and families, and the health professionals you work with.

Saint Mary's Managed Clinical Service (MCS) are proud to be the largest maternity service in the country providing care for women and birthing people across Greater Manchester and surrounding areas, supporting around 17,500 births each year, cared for by over 700 whole time equivalent midwives. Saint Mary's MCS is a well-known centre of excellence, with an excellent reputation and a vibrant, lively working atmosphere. We provide community antenatal & postnatal services across our main hospital sites (Saint Mary's, Wythenshawe and North Manchester General Hospital). This role is based and North Manchester General Hospital covering areas in North Manchester.

Main duties of the job

Using your well honed leadership skills, you'll act as a support to the Team Leader, deputise for them when necessary, and develop and maintain organisational and managerial skills relevant to the department.

Implementing the Trust's annual appraisal process will be another key duty, as will participating and leading in the Improving Quality Programme.

As a motivating and inspirational practice assessor, you'll be a resource for all our midwives, support staff and students, encouraging a high level of achievement in everyone you work with. You'll all ensure the clinical environment is conducive to supporting education and learning, and see that mentorship training is updated annually.

Your organisational and management skills will help you understand and appreciate the cost implications associated with our service, and ensure the effective use of all the resources we use.

The maintenance of your own professional development will be key to your success, and you'll also help to promote awareness of current developments in midwifery, and look out for every opportunity to increase your own knowledge, skills and expertise.

Dedicated to providing an environment that encourages patient-centred involvement within the community setting, you'll promote good working relationships with all the internal and external departments you work with, with the ultimate aim of providing the best patient journey possible.
