Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist (Neuro-Rehab)

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Occupational Therapist specialising in Neuro-Rehabilitation. We are looking to recruit a B7 Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist for our Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at Trafford General Hospital on a fulltime permanent basis.

You will be part of a dynamic, well-established multidisciplinary team, working on the only level 2a Neuro-Rehab unit in Greater Manchester. You will work alongside a Therapy Clinical Lead, experienced Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists and Rehabilitation Assistants. Our team is committed to delivering a holistic approach to patient care, ensuring high-quality outcomes in line with national guidelines.

You will work clinically to support the assessment and delivery of rehabilitation to our patients, and also support their discharge and complex case management.

You will have a role in the senior leadership team on the unit supporting service development and improvements alongside providing leadership to the Occupational Therapists in the team.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist with experience of working in neuro-rehabilitation at Band 6 level and above.

You should have proven skills in neurological Occupational Therapy including:

  • Knowledge and experience of assessing and treating cognition, vision and spasticity
  • In depth knowledge of the mental capacity act and complex discharge planning
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skills in neurological management, rehabilitation and multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of complex discharge planning within the NHS
  • Strong leadership skills are essential to compliment your advanced Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills

You will be required to co-ordinate and monitor the activity and caseload demands on the unit, provide evidence-based training within the MDT and support junior therapists in the team to ensure high quality care.

You will provide support to the OT team through supervision, appraisal and teaching. And you'll support the Therapy Clinical Lead with service provision and development opportunities.

You will be supported in your role by the Therapy Clinical Lead and receive regular supervision.

The neurorehabilitation therapy team is ward based and works closely with nursing and medical colleagues to deliver excellent neurological rehabilitation.
