Job summary

This is a Consultant Haematologist posts in the Clinical Haematology Department at Manchester Royal Infirmary to join a well-established and cohesive team at Manchester Foundation Trust. The department of Clinical Haematology is part of the Clinical Service Unit of In-Patient Medical Specialties. The post-holder will also provide on-call provision forhaemato-oncology (1:8) for Manchester Royal Infirmary,

This is a 10 PA job plan. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration - MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for candidates who are offered permanent vacancies.

Main duties of the job

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • The appointee will work within the haemato-oncology, stem cell transplant, CAR-T and gene therapy service at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
  • The appointee will participate in the on-call rota for haemato-oncology
  • The appointee will undertake laboratory duties in line with his/her clinical interests.
  • The appointee will be expected to undertake both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, both inside and outside the Trust.
  • The appointee will be expected to actively participate in clinical trials programme in transplantation, cellular and gene therapies
  • The consultant will be expected to provide consultant cross-cover for annual/study leave and short-term sickness for other consultants in the department on a rotational basis.

The Post

This post has arisen as the department continues to expand, with the ever-increasing number of stem cell transplant indications, the extension of cellular (CAR-T) therapies to new products and the developments of gene therapies.

The post holder will work as part of the haemato-oncology and stem cell transplant / cellular and gene therapy teams and is to start as soon as possible. The post holder will work closely with the other members of the attending and on-call consultant teams (Dr Jane Norman, Dr Lourdes Rubio, Dr Eleni Tholouli, Dr Fiona Dignan, Dr Phillip Crea, Dr Jenna Fielding, Dr Johnathon Elliott, Dr Farhan Anjum)

  • Higher qualification (FRCPath or equivalent)
  • Completion of core medical training (MRCP(UK) or equivalent)
