Job summary

We are offering an excellent opportunity for a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join our laboratory. We are looking a suitably qualified individual who is highly motivated to further their career. We offer one of the most successful training programmes in the UK in H&I, and study towards higher qualifications will be positively encouraged. Participation in research and innovation relevant to the needs of the service is also a requirement of this post, and presentation of data at national and international H&I meetings will be supported.

Our laboratory serves regional kidney, pancreas, islet, heart, lung, cornea, haemopoietic progenitor cell transplant programmes and HLA typing for disease diagnosis or drug toxicity risk assessment. Full interaction with the relevant clinical teams, including attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings is expected. A requirement of the post is to participate in the out of hours' on-call rota which supports the organ transplant programmes.

Applications are invited from individuals with experience in all aspects of H&I, evidenced by attainment of the BSHI Diploma, or graduation from an STP programme. Individuals close to attaining state registration, or with an application under consideration, are also encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

1. to be a science graduate registered with the Health and Care Professions Council in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.

  1. on a daily basis, responsibility for organising and planning work activity lies with the appointee
  1. to make significant contributions to routine laboratory work
  1. to take a lead role in daily laboratory activities on a rota basis involving supervision of laboratory assistants, technologists and trainee clinical scientists
  1. to be involved in specialised areas of laboratory work on a rotational basis
  1. to participate in out-of-hours on-call duties
  1. to participate in the BSHI CPD scheme
  1. may pursue studies for a higher academic or professional qualification
