Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed -term (12 months) Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to deliver assessments, diagnoses and interventions to children and their families in a variety of locations across the city. This post is within the Mainstream Schools Team.

You will have experience of working with children and their families, possess excellent time management, problem-solving, analytical and reflection skills. With current knowledge of the implications of the 2014 Children's and Families Act, and a particular knowledge of SEND. You will also have a thorough working knowledge and use of up-to-date assessment procedures and therapy techniques.

Working alongside key partners such as parents, schools and other health workers in managing the young persons needs you will be based in a team within the larger citywide service. In Manchester many of the patients are from families whose mother tongue is not English.

Main duties of the job

We work in mainstream schools across the city providing assessment, direct therapy, training, group work, and much more. This regular input to the settings means that we can be creative in the ways that we work to ensure we have the most impact.

Our team is a large, well-established and supportive department. We provide you with regular clinical supervision, protected time for CPD opportunities and support from an experienced team. We also offer a comprehensive induction program, 1-1's and annual appraisals to develop knowledge and skills. We aim to ensure every member of the team is fulfilled in their role and as we are a large service, there are opportunities for career development and to work on service development projects.

The Manchester Speech and Language Therapy Service is a city-wide service providing support to young people aged 0-16, or 19 years if the young person attends a Manchester Special Support Schools. You will need to have a good theoretical knowledge of paediatric speech, language and communication needs, including social communication differences. You will also need knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting an inner city, multi-ethnic community.
