Acute Paediatric Rotational Occupational Therapist

Job summary

This is an exciting time to join Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. We are recruiting for a motivated and passionate children's occupational therapist to join our Children's Rehabilitation Therapy Team that sits within the Division of Allied Health Professions. The post holder will gain acute experience primarily in one or more specialities: neurology (including acquired brain injury and long term complex conditions), oncology, orthopaedics (elective and trauma including upper limb conditions), rheumatology (including chronic pain), burns & plastics, and metabolic bone disease. You will work with children and young people from 0-18 years with complex health needs and significant injuries, along with their families. Additionally the role involves working out of hours as part of the Major Trauma/Orthopaedic weekend and bank holiday service.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team within the hospital as well as liaising closely with a variety of community services.

You will also be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, developing your own treatment plans and managing a complex caseload.You should be able to work positively with children/young people with significant injuries/wounds and ideally have achieved some basic competences with splinting.

There is a competency framework in place to support your learning anddevelopment. You need to be flexible and willing to provide cross cover to support senior colleagues in other specialities.You will need effective communication are needed to provide intervention to children of different ages, cultural backgrounds and complex needs.

This involves being able to problem solve and manage challenging situations as they arise.

You must be a team player who can work collaboratively as part of an integrated multi professional team. You must be able to manage your own time effectively and be competent to line manage and support junior, unqualified staff and students. You will be well supported; receiving professional advice and support from senior colleagues.
