HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

The post holder is responsible for ensuring immediate care to the relevant client group and will work primarily within the HIV service at The Hathersage Centre. The post holder will assess, planimplement and evaluate the care for HIV positive patients, supporting and guiding junior staff in the process. Post holder will provide direct patient care and have detailed clinical knowledge of the specialist area. The post holder will assist the senior Nurses in ensuring that high standards ofquality of care are delivered & maintained. The post holder will act as a positive role model within the department for staff patients and carers. The post holder will deputise for the senior nurse as required. The post holder will enable nurses to acquire clinical and professional competencies by facilitating high quality education and staff development opportunities.

Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development.

A band 5-6 training role would be considered if applicants are lacking in clinical skills or experience.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the daily HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist services for people living with HIV offering clinical advice, self-management support and referral to other appropriate community or voluntary sector services to promote health and wellbeing.

To triage and action urgent and non-urgent clinical and/or administrative tasks.

To practise HIV and sexual health nursing according to agreed HIV and Sexual and reproductive health clinical protocols and guidelines.

To supply medication (as appropriate) within the boundaries of Patient Group Directions. Undertaking the required training if required.

Support pre and post registration nurses, and other staff groups as required.

Work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service. This will include the cover of early evening clinics.

Assist with telephone enquiries as required giving accurate HIV advice and information to clients and other professionals as necessary.

Assist with the delivery of the HIV clinical outreach services as and when required.

Attend and participate in regular team, HIV and MDT meetings.

Attend ward rounds with the HIV doctors, providing a MDT approach to inpatient care, discharge planning and follow-up care.

Participate in processes to improve capacity of HIV testing and results reporting.
