Senior Nursing Assistant - Sexual and Reproductive Health

Job summary

The post holder will act as a Senior Nursing Assistant, supporting the multi-disciplinary team, working under the supervision of registered nurses. They will assist patients through the North Manchester sexual health service. This includes clinic chaperoning doctors/specialist nurses, assisting with procedures and carrying out venepuncture. Having received training they will deliver a scientific service of microscopy staining slides, diagnosing infection within the Sexual Health Department. The post-holder will keep the material resources well stocked in the clinical area and in the laboratory. They will be expected to rotate through managed areas within the clinic assisting in general care duties as specified below, under the overall guidance/supervision delegated by a Registered Nurse.

Main duties of the job

Assist and chaperone the nurses and doctors in a variety of clinics during the patient consultation and clinical examination including, e.g. sexual health screening, and specialist contraception clinics

To provide a phlebotomy service

Undertake specialist training to undertake microscopy

Work independently to provide asymptomatic sexual health screening and PrEP Express appointment clinics.

Prepare clinic rooms prior to commencement of clinic sessions by ensuring the relevant equipment/supplies are available

To maintain stock levels

Assist with the checking and recording of deliveries to the clinical areas against original orders.

Ensure stock rotation.

  • Holds a level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g. NVQ or Apprenticeship) in clinical health care OR Able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skill and competency to undertake band 3 clinical skills (described in JD)
  • Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent
  • Worked at a band 2 Nursing Assistant or equivalent
