Consultant Neonatologist

The closing date is 10 November 2025

Job summary

Health care in Manchester is changing. In October 2017 Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) merged to create a new Foundation Trust, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) in 2021 this then expanded further to include the services at North Manchester General Hospital.

Neonatal Intensive care is provided by Saint Mary's Hospital, primarily in NICU on the Oxford Road Campus, with local Neonatal Units at the Wythenshawe and North Manchester sites. These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester and provide a wealth of career opportunities for motivated clinicians.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a consultant to join our enthusiastic neonatal team working between the NICU at St Marys Hospital and the regional Neonatal Transport Service (Connect NW). This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the largest neonatal service in England and the busiest UK transport team, catering for both neonatal medical and surgical infants. The post-holder will be based in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit on the Oxford Road Campus, and at the centralised Neonatal Transport Operational Hub near Warrington. The transport service has a core of highly experienced Neonatal Transport nurses and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and has a strong track record of innovation and multidisciplinary teamworking. The service has a number of transport incubator systems providing all modes of ventilation including high frequency oscillation and nitric oxide and active cooling in transport. We also have an excellent ambulance support allowing rapid response times on a 24/7 basis
