Sp Nurse for Organ Retrieval/ Ventricular Assist Devices Coordinator

Job summary

Applications are invited to join the Specialist Nurse for Organ Retrieval and Ventricular assist devices (VAD) Coordinator team at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Organ retrieval service team, the post holder will help facilitate assessment, procurement, preservation and safe transfer of heart and lungs for transplantation.

As a Ventricular Assist Devices Coordinator, the post holder will facilitate the care and education of patients supported with a Ventricular Assist Device and their families from initial contact, work-up for implant, peri-operative period and long-term follow-up, maintaining excellent care across the VAD/Transplant continuum. VAD Coordinators also participate in patient and caregiver education, providing educational/outreach support regarding VAD to health care providers, patient groups, community organizations, and others in the hospital's service area.

  • Registered Nurse and NMC registration
  • Teaching/ assessor certificate or equivalent
  • Post registration training

Experience

  • minimum 3 years' experience at band 5 in ITU/ Cardiothoracic/ Cardiology
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
