Job summary
Work as part of the Specialist Lung Cancer Team within outpatient clinics, daycase units, inpatient settings
Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessments of patients, reassessing as necessary, ensuring individualised needs are considered. Planning and evaluating care and interventions as appropriate
Support patients to access all information required, as and when appropriate to them, supporting them with decision making throughout the pathway
To provide advice, expertise information and support to health practitioners within the Trust and promote standards of practice
To support the lead nurse in the application of national and local standards and pathways in lung cancer care within the Trust and to deputise as required
To assist in providing staff training in the care of this client group
To contribute towards the implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures
To ensure that timely and effective communication enhances service provision
Ensure visibility within clinical areas
Participate in the development of MDT/ team objectives for the service/speciality
Act as a role model for standards of behaviour and professionalism, through commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within role and workplace
Bring relevant national information, policies and guidelines that may impact on service to the attention of the MDT and senior nurses.

Main duties of the job
1. In the absence of and with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, provide leadership, complex specialist nursing advice and be a specialist advisory resource in order to further develop the lung cancer services within and outside the Trust, including Social Services, voluntary organisation and Patient forums.
2. Assist in the development and maintenance of the lung cancer / pleural services for cancer patientsrequiring in-patient and out - patient treatment and care
3. Undertake research and audit
4. Provide education/training in own discipline/practical training or undertaking basic workplace assessments to the multidisciplinary Team, students, patients and carers as appropriate.
5. Assess, plan and implement and evaluate specialist nursing care
