Job summary

An opportunity has arisen at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

The successful candidate will be a core member of the specialist palliative care team.

Main duties of the job

The primary aim of the post is to play a leading role in the development and delivery of the clinical service for patients with progressive, incurable Respiratory disease in collaboration with the existing palliative medicine team members and colleagues from other clinical services.

To provide specialist advice and guidance to other colleagues in the management of palliative care patients during the day.

To play a leading role in the development of the coordinated approach to palliative care across the hospital, community and hospice boundaries.

To further develop multi-professional specialist palliative care team working across health and social care agencies.

To maintain close relationships with MFT oncology services and other related hospital specialities.

To help develop and co-ordinate protocols of referral and symptom control guidelines which are then the subject of clinical audit.

To develop multi-professional palliative care teaching, research and audit to ensure a sound evidence base for palliative care practice.

To participate in the education programmes for medical undergraduates and postgraduate medical education across hospital, primary care and hospice sectors.

To provide education and clinical supervision for junior medical staff in palliative medicine.

To play a role in ensuring continuing professional development and post graduate training in palliative care for tumour specific groups and other clinical teams.
