Band 7 Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Tissue Dissection (Annex 21)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly Histopathology team based at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The Histopathology department processes approximately 35,000 specimens annually and is a large tertiary gynaecology and gastrointestinal site.

As an Advanced Biomedical Scientist in Tissue Dissection you will work with Advanced Practitioners, as well as other members of the department's dissection team, dealing with a range of specimen types covering sub-specialist areas such as dermatology, gastrointestinal, gynaecological, head and neck, osteoarticular and urology specimens. You will undertake the role of specialist/ expert dissector in a range of Histopathology sub-specialities and will achieve competency in the dissection of category A, B and C specimens. You will also support the Advanced Biomedical Scientist team within the department to maintain high quality technical work and maintaining high scientific standards. Band 7 candidates must have completed the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection, however, candidates already working towards gaining the qualification will be considered for appointment at Band 7 Annex 21 position.

Main duties of the job

Maintain/ develop competency in tissue dissection of category A - C specimens.

Completion of personal and work related audits evidencing competence to practice in line with ISO 15189 and RCPath standards.

Support the Advanced Biomedical Scientists within the department with the day to day management of laboratory staff ensuring service delivery.
