Lead Clinical Nurse Endoscopist

Applications are invited for the post of Lead Clinical Nurse Endoscopist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (based at Trafford General/Manchester Royal Hospital but with cross site working).

S/he will provide clinical leadership for Nurse Endoscopist working across the Managed Single Service (MSS) within MFT. They will be responsible for the overall clinical leadership, governance and pathway development of their portfolio of Lead Clinical Nurse Endoscopist for MSS. The post holder will work with system partners and contribute locally and strategically to the redesign of Endoscopy Service across MSS, maximising capacity and patient experience.

There is an expectation that a maximum of 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, having clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of patients. The portfolio of Lead Clinical Nurse Endoscopist may demand more clinical time while supporting Trainee Nurse Endoscopist, but this will be at the discretion of the successful candidate, in agreement with Head of Nursing to ensure that the demands of clinical support and strategic portfolio development are balanced.

The post holder will lead elements of JAG accreditation standards across all of the MSS endoscopy units ensuring compliance with the required standards and continued improvement of service delivery and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Undertake diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy using advanced and specialist skills in endoscopy as an independent autonomous practitioner in accordance with defined protocols.

o Identify and implement new developments, treatments and technologies into clinical practice in line with MFT and local governance processes, including the evaluation of any changes within practice.

The post holder will take part in the unit's Global Rating Scale process and standards and have the ability to develop services, and assist with the achievement of JAG accreditation

o Provide professional and clinical leadership and management support for substantive/trainee/ Nurse Endoscopist within the MSS.

o Hold a delegated budget as appropriate supporting the operational clinical team in collaboration with the service lead to deliver cost efficiencies and ensure service delivery is within allocated budgets.

The post holder will ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research and collaborating with colleagues in everyday practice.

Work with HEIs, Endoscopy Academy and workforce development professionals to influence the development of pre and post graduate curriculum for all health professionals in relation to their specialist field.

o Participate in the implementation and delivery of the standards set within the MFT Nursing & Midwifery Strategy and contribute to the MFT strategic vision.
