This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist (PT) with an interest in respiratory to work in a tertiary hospital which provides a regional service including most paediatric specialities.

The post is for a 15 month fixed term, full-time band 6 paediatric respiratory PT at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

This post is to provide specialist respiratory OP management to patients with neuromuscular conditions including the set up and monitoring of cough assist programmes and early outpatient or virtual respiratory PT assessment and intervention when there are indications of respiratory illness (with support from the band 7 medical respiratory PTs). This will involve working closely with both the Neuromuscular and Respiratory MDTs to ensure an holistic approach to patient care. There will be close liaison with community nursing teams to arrange provision of required equipment and training for patients and their parents / carers.

In addition the post will also provide cover across all paediatric respiratory PT specialities to support the running of the service.

As a HCPC registered PT, you will have gained substantial clinical experience within respiratory (including critical care) alongside broad rotational experience as a band 5 providing comprehensive assessment and treatment to patients with complex presentations. Experience of working with children / young people is desirable and working on an overnight on-call service is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will line manage and support junior members of staff and students . You would contribute to service development and provide clinical support to other respiratory areas during planned / unplanned absence.

The team is looking for a motivated, flexible and professional individual who is able to provide care to patients and families in an empathetic manner. The post is suitable for a good team player with strong communication skills. You will provide education, advice and support to members of the MDT, patients and parents/carers and be able to respond to and resolve complaints professionally and effectively with excellent communication skills.

With excellent organisational and problem-solving skills you will thrive in a busy environment prioritising a busy workload and coping well under pressure. There is a comprehensive appraisal system and learning opportunities as the department is actively involved in audit and research. You will be supported by experienced clinical leads offering clinical and professional advice and feedback supporting your professional and personal development.

You will be expected to participate in the respiratory on-call and weekend rota. There is a response time of 45 minutes for on-calls.

Due to practical elements of the interview process all interviews will be held strictly in person. Applicants who would therefore be unable to attend should not apply as virtual interviews would not be possible.
