Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

The closing date is 30 September 2025

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to enhance provision within Manchester City Council's Local Inclusion Support Offer (LISO) to primary schools across the city.

The purpose of the support is to provide advice, coaching and training to schools with regards to their pupils with identified Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs, or who are at risk of Permanent Exclusion.

This new role identifies that our CYP who are vulnerable because of their Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs also need support with their SLCN.

Do you have an interest in the field of SEMH, and would describe yourself as passionate in supporting the needs of this complex group of CYP? Do you have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team? Are you keen to try different ways of working?

Main duties of the job

As a highly skilled clinician you will be able to offer both Universal and Targeted support to include:

Training - identification/ bespoke topics for schools on request

Establishing school-wide 'identification' processes

Up-skilling support staff to deliver SLC interventions, eg word-learning, narrative, restorative, incident recall etc

Providing consultation for outreach team, school staff and parents

Provision of tools for schools to support their children's SLC development

Advise schools on provision development.

It goes without saying that we are looking for a therapist who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and who has a talent for building relationships with children and supporting adults.

We are looking for a therapist who is self-aware and has a level of resilience that can support a strong emotional balance.
