Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidenced- based nursing care.Provide expert advice and clinical practice.Provide specialist education and training to others.Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleaguesto develop services in order to deliver quality care.Support the development of clinical services within the specialist field in line with national and local guidance which includes the NHS Cancer Plan, Palliative and End of Life Care Strategy .Participate in a rota that provides seven day a week (08.30 to 16:30)

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist palliative care support and advice to patients, those important to them and to colleagues across settings. In collaboration within peers, plan, deliver and evaluate palliative and end of life care education across clinical areas. Participate in non-clinical activities such as local, regional and national audit; local and trust wide implementation of the MFT Palliative and End of Life Care Strategy, and support the development of resources that will enable staff to deliver high quality, evidence based palliative and end of life care.

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of completion of relevant courses appropriate to the clinical area
  • First level degree in nursing
  • Communication skills training
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Recognised training in audit and/or quality improvement

Desirable

  • Leadership/Management Qualification.
  • Advanced Communication Skills training
  • Non-Medical prescribing or willingness to work towards
  • Clinical Examination Skills level 7 or willingness to work towards
  • Evidence of Masters level study or willingness to work towards

Experience

Essential

  • Five years post qualifying clinical experience.
  • Two years experience in a Band 6 role
  • Minimum one years experience at Band 6 or above within cancer/palliative care/lifelimiting illness clinical setting
  • Leadership & management experience.
  • Experience of contributing to audit and research.
  • Experience of multiprofessional working.
  • Experience mentoring/supervising others
