Job summary
Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is a Centre of excellence for many regional paediatric specialty services including neuromuscular disease, neurology, spinal and neurosurgery, metabolic medicine, oncology and paediatric high dependency (15 beds) and intensive care (17 beds).
There are currently 5 FTE Consultants and one Part-time Consultant with the two new posts there will be 7 Consultants, 5 IBD and Nutrition Specialist Nurses based at RMCH, alongside a Gastro Specialist Nurse for pH and impedance test.
The team undertake a weekly Joint surgical inpatient MDT, Histology MDT, Intestinal Failure and PN MDT, IBD MDT, Hepatobiliary MDT (with adult Hepatobiliary Team), Departmental Grand Round MDT meetings. The team undertake monthly radiological MDT quarterly Joint surgical MDT and annual FAP MDT
Each Consultant has 2.5 Gastroenterology outpatient clinics per week with the IBD and Nutrition Specialist nurses undertaking weekly outpatient clinics as well.
Main duties of the job
The appointees will provide in and outpatient care for patients with gastroenterology conditions.Each Gastroenterology Consultant has one elective Endoscopy list per week in the theatre suites. Emergency theatre sessions for urgent cases are also available. Emergency and out of hours cover are provided by a consultant on call rota (non- resident) which is high intensity. The on-call consultant undertakes ward rounds on Saturdays and Sundays. Gastroenterology Consultants also do endoscopy lists at Starlight on the Wythenshawe Hospital site and may be required to do clinics at Trafford or Wythenshawe.
Cross-cover arrangements are in place to cover patients during times of leave. It is expected that the post holder will work closely with consultant colleagues to ensure clear handover and continuity of care for all patients and that time off during non-hot weeks will be taken flexibly to ensure the department is fully covered at all times.
1.5 PA / week are dedicated to supporting professional activities.
The post will attract nationally agreed study and annual leave entitlements. Cover for annual, sick, maternity, and other leave will be shared equally by appropriate consultants within the Trust.
