Job summary
This post offers an excellent development opportunity for a training-focused GI/GU Radiographer, supported by a formal commitment to education and enrolment on a relevant postgraduate qualification. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of senior colleagues to develop the skills required to manage a varied caseload of adult and CYP patients undergoing a range of Fluoroscopy procedures and CT Colonography examinations. Patients will present with complex GI/GU conditions, and the post holder will be supported to gain competence in assisting with and ultimately performing GI/GU imaging procedures.
In addition to clinical training, the post holder will be encouraged to contribute to the education and support of students and junior staff, helping to foster a positive and inclusive learning culture within the department. There will also be opportunities to engage in academic and professional development activities in collaboration with University partners. While not expected to take on leadership responsibilities while training, the post holder may support the day-to-day running of the service in the absence of senior staff and will play an active role in maintaining a learning-rich environment across the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
- Perform GI/GU examinations and produce high-quality diagnostic images across all MFT Trust sites.
- Act as an autonomous practitioner, interpreting complex procedures and providing clinical and technical advice.
- Contribute to setting standards and guidelines for best practice in GI/GU imaging.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and facilitate the introduction of new clinical techniques.
- Provide clinical advice and support in MDT meetings, ensuring high standards of patient care.
- Organize daily workloads to maximize efficiency and prioritize patient care.
- Conduct GI/GU examinations, including consent, catheterization, and administration of contrast media.
- Prioritize and interpret examinations to establish diagnoses, ensuring urgent findings are communicated.
- Ensure all equipment is used effectively and safely, maintaining professional standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, referrers, and multidisciplinary teams, addressing queries and complaints.
- Participate in staff training and development, offering clinical instruction and supporting CPD.
- Contribute to the development of departmental guidelines and continually improve clinical practices.
