Housekeeper Neonatal Unit

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and committed Housekeeper to join our team. This is an exciting and key role in which you will work closely with the nursing and domestic staff to ensure a safe, clean and organised clinical department. You will take responsibility for ensuring that all medical equipment is clean and well maintained and liaise with the domestic supervisors and staff to ensure cleaning is of a high standard and in line with Infection Control Policies.

You will undertake the monitoring of stock levels for the ward and the ordering of supplies and equipment, therefore excellent computer skills are essential for this role.

You must be able to empathise with and consider patients' families as you go about your duties. You will have an organised and positive approach to ensure the tasks at hand are carried out in a timely, effective manner. Able to cope well under pressure, you will utilise excellent communication and team skills.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the ongoing care and support of parents and families during their stay ensuring access to relevant information.

Clean unit equipment such as incubators, intravenous and infusion equipment in accordance with infection control policies and assist with the overall cleanliness of the unit including intensive care cot spaces post discharge and prior to new admissions.

Stock control, ordering, tracking and tracing of deliveries and ensuring that stock is rotated and stored away safely in line with Health and Safety Regulations.

Liaise with other departments and hospitals regarding equipment issues and escalate where necessary.

Ensure all trolleys and storage spaces are fully stocked, drug and milk fridges clean and tidy, and medicines and breast milk stored in line with Trust policies. Monitoring and recording fridge temperatures.

When necessary clean spillages of hazardous substances including bodily fluids and disposal of sharps in line with Trust policies.

Stock control of linen, assisting with laundry and disposing of soiled linen in line with Trust policies.

Assist with operational support in the absence of the ward clerk.

Other tasks as felt necessary by the Ward Manager/Matron to ensure the smooth running of the unit, and cleanliness in line with Infection Control Policy.
